The Carlson Leadership Academy is a immersive, two day, leadership training event held annually at five locations across the country. This event is meant to provide training to members of chapter’s current executive council and serve to provide and sharpen the skills needed to properly direct each position on the executive council. This event also allows the opportunity to work in a helping environment meant to bolster teamwork and cement each chapters ability to work together on the executive council. It also looks to honor exceptional chapters, individual undergraduates and volunteers for achievements in scholastic, recruiting and developmental fields.
This past weekend, seven active brothers from Sigma Phi Epsilon New York Delta Chapter traveled to Parsippany, NJ for the annual Carlson Leadership Academy. Six of the brothers went to each of their respective trainings: Alexander Hauck on the president track, Richard Wang on the finance track, Dan Shipman on the recruitment track, Andy Chafy on the chaplain track, Alexander Jenouri on the Member Development Track and Sergey Scoville on the Communications track. Three of the alumni, Dominic Prudente, Chris DiNicola, and Ben Bowles, participated in the Philip A. Cox Volunteer Institute, and Vishrudh Gopalakrishnan volunteered as facilitator at the event.
Over the course of the weekend, the brothers all spent time in each of their tracks learning new skills to help them succeed, from introducing a house position to help with potential new member lists, to catering events to the target group such as alumni or the community at large, to incentivizing early payments. Some of the brothers had the opportunity to interact with members of the national organization and were able to get some guidance from professionals in their respective fields. While the event was fast-paced and everybody put in long hours, all of the brothers walked away with improved confidence in their ability to run their cabinet and renewed vigor to further improve their chapter.
